The Yangtze River Delta region leads the world in MDI production capacity
The Yangtze River Delta region centered on Shanghai is currently the most developed area in the domestic PU industry, and PU raw materials and their products have accounted for more than half of the country. Among them, MDI production capacity accounts for the vast majority of the country's total production capacity, and has become one of the largest MDI production capacity regions in the world.
In 2021, Covestro increased MDI production capacity by 50,000 tons; Wanhua Chemical expanded the capacity of the existing Ningbo MDI plant, expanding the capacity of the first phase MDI plant from the existing 400,000 tons/year to 600,000 tons/year, and the second phase of the MDI plant from the existing 800,000 tons/year to 1.2 million tons/year, and it is expected that the two projects will achieve capacity contribution around 2023-2024.
Specifically, there are four major production bases in the Yangtze River Delta region, namely Shanghai Polyurethane Industrial Park, Zhejiang Ruian Huafeng Industrial Park, Huafeng New Material Industrial Park and Ningbo Daxie Island MDI Industrial Park.
